Starbucks offers deals and special offers frequently for beverages, food products, and ground coffee. These are not only available for in-store purchases, some can be used on grocery items. While you usually can't use two printable coupons on the same product, there is a way to combine the various channels to multiply your savings. If you're alert, you can enjoy your Pike's Peak Roast and save money, too! To illustrate how this works, I'll share what I did last month.

Start with the CVS Extracare Program

While a pharmacy may seem to be an odd place to start saving money on gourmet coffee, CVS is actually an excellent place to do this. They sell Starbucks ground coffee and beans, accept both manufacturer's and store coupons, and provide additional savings through the CVS ExtraCare program. CVS also allows you to combine manufacturer's and store coupons on the same item.

Watch the sale circulars to see when Starbucks ground coffee is on sale at CVS. Last month, the sale price was $5.99 a bag. This is a significant savings from the regular price of $8.99 to $9.99 a bag. The Sunday circular also had a coupon for $1.00 off a bag of coffee. I clipped it, and went through my personal file to see how many others I had saved. I had 3 $1.00 off ones, each good for one bag of coffee, so I grabbed those as well.

When I got to the store, I went first to the CVS ExtraCare kiosk. This is a machine in the store that issues ExtraCare deals when you swipe your card. It printed out several coupons: one for candy, one for $1.00 off a pound of Starbucks coffee, and another for $3.00 off a $15.00 purchase. I went over to the grocery section, and selected three bags of coffee, then headed to the register where I paid $9.97 - about what one bag would have cost me without the savings.

But it gets better!

Coupons at Starbucks

While Starbucks doesn't allow you to combine two coupons on the same purchase, they do allow you to combine coupons and special offers.

Starbucks redeems every empty coffee bag for a free tall coffee. The bag needs to be presented within 6 months of the use by date for the coffee.

During Tribute Days they were also offering a free Petites pastry with the purchase of any drink. I used one of my empty bags from my CVS haul and ordered a tall Tribute blend and a petite red velvet whoopie pie from the barista. The cost? $0! The coffee was free with the bag, and the whoopie pie was free with the coffee.

So, I spent $9.97 for 3 bags of coffee, 1 brewed coffee, and one whoopie pie...and I still have two bags which I can redeem for two more free coffees.
